Downton Distillery, an internationally acclaimed micro-distillery, is nestled in the picturesque Domaine Hugo Vineyards on the Wiltshire Downs. We are dedicated to authentic craftsmanship, taking pride in our heritage while embracing innovation to create unique, high-quality spirits.

Our flagship product, Explorer’s Gin, draws inspiration from local legend Sir Walter Raleigh, who was granted a Royal Warrant in 1584 to explore the New World. Though he returned without gold, he brought back tobacco, potatoes, and cedar—elements that now define Explorer’s Gin’s distinctive profile.

Sustainability and conservation are central to our mission. Great Bustard Gin was created to support the Great Bustard Conservation group, led by Patron King Charles III, raising awareness for this noble cause. We commit to responsible production, using only local ingredients and packaging with recycled glass, cork, and labels.

Certified by ‘Green Small Business’ and recognized by the ‘Good Shopping Guide’ for ethical practices, we are mapping our carbon footprint with the aim of achieving both carbon and plastic neutrality. Monthly investments in green initiatives—like carbon capture, juniper rewilding, and Gold Standard environmental projects through Eco Tree, Ecologi, and Climeworks—reflect our dedication. By 2024, our refill scheme has saved over 5 metric tons of glass.

Our spirits have earned numerous national and international awards, with recent honors including the 2023 Wiltshire Life Sustainability Award and the Gin Guide Sustainability Award 2023, celebrating our commitment to environmental responsibility and quality.
